Course Description: 

This is the first module of the Intermediate High band. In this level, learners will start to explore more complex features of the Arabic language. This includes the construction of noun-number phrases, diptotes, doubled roots and the jussive, as well as how to recognize and construct passive expressions. Students will apply their knowledge to reading about and discussing the topic of religion and religious practises and will explore how to justify their thoughts and opinions using vocabulary found in classical/ liturgical as well as more modern texts.

Module Content:  

  • Constructing noun-number phrases (1-10) 
  • Introduction to diptotes (ممنوع من الصرف )
  • Conjugating doubled roots 
  • Expressing the passive 
  • The jussive mood 
  • Justifications – ‘because’ phrases
  • Religion and religious practices 

Course Prerequisites:

  • Students should be women above the age of 17.
  • Arabic Intermediate Middle 3 or equivalent knowledge.

Course Requirements:

Students are expected to attend 2 online classes each week, complete weekly assignments, submit a personal project and a final exam.

This is an online course so students will need:

  • Access to internet with an internet speed of at least 2 Mbps recommended for best performance. 
  • Headphones, camera and microphone may be required for in-class participation. 
  • To access the live class and recordings, students will need a computer, smartphone, or tablet/iPad with the Zoom app.

Live attendance is recommended whenever possible for the best learning experience. Recordings of the sessions will be made available for registered students who cannot attend live.
