A practical course providing students the opportunity to practice reading the Holy Quran and master the skill of decoding. Students will learn the Baghdadi method of decoding Quranic script, learn the types of Arabic sounds and how to pronounce them correctly, and be introduced to the science of tajwīd. These skills will be put into practice in class with the instructor, and students will gain strategies to practice at home. By the end of this course, students should be able to recognize all the Arabic letters and vowel sounds with ease and be able to pronounce most of them correctly while improving their general speed and fluency while reading.
- Students should be women above the age of 17.
- ARL 111: Arabic Novice Beginner or equivalent knowledge
- Knowledge of Arabic letters and harakat (tashkil).
New students in the Ribaat Tajwīd Program should complete an assessment with a tajwīd assessor. Based on that, they will receive a recommendation on the best course to start with. This course meets two times a week in person at the Rabata Cultural Center. This is a practical course so live attendance is required.
