Live attendance is recommended whenever possible for the best learning experience. Recordings of the sessions will be made available for registered students who cannot attend live.

Prerequisites: 

  1. Students should be women above the age of 17.
  2. ARA 100: “Introduction to Arabic”. 
  3. Knowledge of Arabic letters and harakat (tashkil).

Placement: New students in the Ribaat Tajwīd Program should complete an assessment with a tajwīdassessor. Based on that, they will receive a recommendation on the best course to start with. Course Description: A practical course providing students the opportunity to practice reading the Holy Quran and master the skill of decoding. Students will learn the Nooraniyya method of decoding Quranic script, learn the types of Arabic sounds and how to pronounce them correctly, and be introduced to the science of tajwīd. These skills will be put into practice in class with the instructor, and students will also gain strategies to practice at home. By the end of this course, students should be able to recognize all the Arabic letters and vowel sounds with ease, and be able to pronounce most of them correctly.

Course Requirements: Students are expected to attend the online lectures, complete one or more weekly assignments and submit a final exam.

This is an online course so students will need:

  • Access to internet with an internet speed of at least 2 Mbps recommended for best performance. 
  • Headphones, camera and microphone may be required for in-class participation. 
  • To access the live class and recordings, students will need a computer, smartphone, or tablet/iPad with the Zoom app.
